Q: Do I need a referral to start the program? Expand

A: This is a voluntary program and requires no referral to begin.

Q: How do I start the program? Expand

A: To book an appointment, please contact the central phone number, 1-833-456-3296. You can also walk-in and present your OHIP card at one of our clinics for same day appointment and assessment.

Q: How soon will I be able to get treatment? Expand

A: New patients can expect to receive their first treatment within a few days.

You can receive your first dose as soon as it is deemed safe. Often it is done on the same day of visit or the next few days.

Q: How is the program paid for? Expand

A: The program is fully covered with a valid OHIP card. There are some exemptions from time to time, e.i .special forms or letters that are not covered under the Schedule of Benefits and Fees that you may be responsible to pay directly.

Q: Are my medication costs covered? Expand

A: The costs of medications may be covered under government plans such as Ontario Drug Benefits (ODB) or Non-Insured Health Benefits (NHIB), a private medical plan, or Trillium Drug Plan (TDP).

Q: What is the sign-up process like? Expand

A: Set aside 45 minutes to 1 hour of your time to complete paperworks. You will also be required to provide a urine sample. Then a consultation with the doctor will follow.

Q: What should I bring with me when I come to sign up for the program? Expand

A: Please bring your valid health card and photo ID.

Q: How long will I be on the program? Expand

A: As each person’s journey varies from another, you really cannot determine your time recovery in the program. Each person has the right to continue or stop receiving treatment if they deemed it helpful and right for them.

Q: Are there any negative drug interactions? Expand

A: You are advised to speak with your doctor if you are taking other medications. As this can be potentially dangerous.

Q: What will happen if I stop taking my medication? Expand

A: In the early stages of your methadone or suboxone treatment it is highly recommended that no doses are missed. If you miss 3 consecutive days of methadone and miss 5 consecutive days of suboxone you will need to be reassessed by a Physician to begin the program again.

Q: Can methadone be used during pregnancy? Expand

A: Yes, if you are pregnant and still using opiates you should begin methadone maintenance as soon as possible. Methadone prevents opioid withdrawal, which can be dangerous for your baby. Methadone is a safe and effective way to manage opiate dependency during pregnancy.

Please speak with your doctor about your options if you are pregnant.

Q: Will you call CAS when I sign up on the program? Expand

A: We do not automatically call CAS when you sign up on the program. But if there is evidence and thought that a child under the age of 16 is in harm’s way, we have the obligation to report or notify proper authorities.

Q: Is my personal information confidential? Will my family, employer, outside agencies be made aware that I am on medication assisted therapy? Expand

A: All client information is confidential. New Dawn Medical will not release a client’s personal information without a signed consent from the client, unless there is sufficient enough evidence to prove that you are at risk to yourself, another individual, and/or a child.
